A set of male and female fertility figures, hand carved from water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) bone. Each figure is around 18cm tall.
These are sometimes gifted to a new couple, as a wedding ritual offering, by the shaman. The amateur of primitive art will delight in such pieces. Each effigy bears a piece of horn on top of the head and represents protective ancestors: the bone is also hand carved & hand etched with primitive body details of man and woman. Ethnographic material from this area is rare and highly sought after by museums and collectors.
